TeraS Date Night at Disney, Magic Kingdom, Special Events 1 Comment

My roommates were my dates to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in 2015

It’s 95 degrees in Orlando, Florida, but it’s Halloween time at the Magic Kingdom! That’s right, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has kicked off early this year, with the first party debuting on August 25th.

Can you think of that one person you’d like to take with you on a stroll down Main Street USA? While gawking at the beautiful Mickey pumpkins, watching the Hocus Pocus show, eating loads of candy, and being amazed by the Happy HalloWishes fireworks show? Good, because I’m going to provide a step-by-step guide to ensure the best experience to this boo-tacular event!

1. Picking the Date

This year, three additional parties were added to the schedule.

If you are looking to save some money, attend a party in September, when it’s only $74 per ticket. Once October arrives, tickets rise to $100 each. You can purchase these tickets online.

2017 Dates for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party:

August 25 & 29
September 1, 7, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, & 29
October 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27, 29, & 31
November 1

Once you pick a date, decide if you want to attend just the party or spend the day at the Magic Kingdom. Wristbands will be handed out beginning at 4 pm, with the party starting at 7 pm. If you are not a passholder or don’t wish to purchase a park ticket, you’ll need to plan to either pay for parking or get dropped off. Then allow time to get through security and to the front gate before party time. Keep in mind you will not be let into the park before 7 pm without a general park ticket.

2. How to Stand Out

If you are going with your significant other, it’s always fun to choose a couples costume idea. We all have seen the Han Solos and Leias, Belles and Beasts, Mary Poppins’s and Burts, Jacks and Sallys, and of course Mickeys and Minnies. If you want to stand out, try thinking outside of the box. Which classic film characters tend to be forgotten? Now, if you want to stick to classic characters that tend to be seen at the parties, then go for it! But if you’re looking for something different, these are a bit more unique:

  • Elizabeth Swan & Will Turner
  • Boo & Sully
  • Bo Peep & Woody
  • Kim Possible & Ron Stoppable
  • Popeye & Olive Oyl
  • Lady & The Tramp
  • Peggy Carter & Captain America
  • Lucy & Ricky

3. Prioritizing Your Party Agenda

To have the most successful experience at the Halloween party, you must choose what is important to you and your date to experience. Otherwise, you risk total overwhelm. There are fireworks, the Hocus Pocus show, the parade, trick or treating, and of course your favorite theme park rides. You may think that you can do it all, but you must take into consideration the crowds and the wait times.

The parties are remarkable because the wait times at some of your favorite attractions will most likely be greatly reduced. However, if character meet and greets are important to you (especially the characters you only get to meet during the parties, like Jack Sparrow, Jack and Sally, and Jafar), you’ll need to be prepared to wait over an hour for these photo ops.

If you and your date are excited about the entertainment as much as I was, then you will be happy to know there are four Hocus Pocus shows and two parade times. This should help you plan your evening, filling in the spaces for rides, character meet and greets, food, trick or treating, and the unforgettable Headless Horsemen.

Hocus Pocus Show Times

8:00 pm, 9:20 pm, 10:40 pm, 12:00 am

Boo To You Halloween Parade

8:15 & 11:15 pm

Be sure to take advantage of the trick or treating! Where else is it acceptable for a grown adult to dress up and get free candy?! Once you receive your wristbands at the front gates, the cast members will be handing out candy bags for you to use at the specific treat locations that will be listed on your Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party guide. Great news: they are conveniently located, so you will run into them no matter where you go during the party.

Keep in mind the cast are very generous with their candy handouts, so you might plan for a backpack to lug around your treats!

4. Dining

If you wish to dine at the party keep in mind you must have a ticket to the event to make a reservation, and reservations are VERY limited and must be made prior to the evening.

Dining at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

The following dining venues will be available:
Be Our Guest Restaurant, Cinderella’s Royal Table, and The Crystal Palace
Disney dining plans will be accepted at all three locations.

If your evening isn’t sweet enough, then you might want to consider purchasing tickets to the Happy HalloWishes Dessert Party, which takes place at the Tomorrowland Terrace in the Magic

The party will begin at 9:15 pm, with the fireworks beginning at 10:15 pm. Ticket prices are $79 plus tax for guests 10 and older. To make reservations, call 407-939-3463.

5. Viewing Locations

In my opinion, you must experience the Boo to You Parade and HalloWishes because you will not be able to ever witness this one-of-a-kind magic anywhere else!

If you have had the pleasure to experience the Festival of Fantasy parade at Magic Kingdom, I would suggest viewing this parade at your favorite spot because it is the same parade route. However, if you have not witnessed either parade before, the best two locations are in front of the Trading Post in Frontierland, or at the end of the route in Town Square on Main Street USA. I would suggest getting to your viewing location 30-45 minutes beforehand to ensure a good seat.

To view HalloWishes, my favorite location is on the garden lawns in front of the castle by Casey’s Corner, and the Plaza Restaurant.  I would suggest arriving 30-45 minutes before the show at 10:15 because it fills up fast! This is a great spot to relax and stretch out on the lawn, and take in the beauty of the castle towards the end of your evening. If you want to continue relaxing after the fireworks have ended, the Hocus Pocus show will follow at 10:40 pm.
