Disney “a la Mode”

I scream, you scream, let’s go to Disney and get some ice cream! Who doesn’t love ice cream, especially if Disney is involved? Disney’s Imagineers are excellent at creating the incredibly immersive world that is Disney, but the imagination doesn’t end there. The food at Disney World is also amazing and their imaginative creations can’t be beat.

Ice cream at Walt Disney World comes in a multitude of shapes, sizes, and combinations. How do you know which to choose, you ask? Well, that’s easy – you simply can’t go wrong, because they’re all delicious! However, if you’re getting ready to go to Disney World and you want your trip to be “a la mode,” here’s a few suggestions that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Let’s begin with two of the classic cult favorites:

  1. The Classic Mickey Ice Cream Bar

The Mickey Ice Cream Bar can be found in multiple locations at all four parks. This creation starts with creamy vanilla ice cream, which is then covered in a rich dark chocolate coating. The bitter chocolate is the perfect contrast to the sweet ice cream inside. However, what really makes this treat standout is its Mickey head shape!

2.  The Dole Whip

The Dole Whip is a pineapple lovers’ paradise. It consists of a pineapple soft serve that tastes like a fresh pineapple right out of the fields of Hawaii. You can also order a Dole Whip Float!  The float consists of the pineapple soft serve and pineapple juice. The dole whip is sold at Aloha Isle located in Magic Kingdom. It can also be found at the Polynesian Resort.

These next two suggestions are for ice cream lovers who like their ice cream to have a little more pizzazz:

3. The Beignet Gelato Sundae

Photo by: Rachel Bshero, @Disney Parks BlogIrresistible beignets topped with your choice of gelato and sauce is what makes up this beautiful and decadent creation. This particular sundae can be found at the New Orleans French Quarter Resort, and even though it is not served in the parks, it is well worth the time it takes to hop on a Disney Transportation Bus to take you there.

4. Croque Glacé

Photo by: Pam Brandon, @DisneyParksBlogThis beauty can be found at the France Pavilion in Epcot in a little shop called L’Artisan des Glaces. The Croque Glacé is a delightful combination of ice cream and sauce (of your choosing) pressed inside of a warm brioche bun. With each bite the ice cream and brioche melts in your mouth and before you know it, you’ll be back in line for round two.

The last suggestion is only for the most adventurous ice cream eaters:

5. The Kitchen Sink

This massive sundae, which is sold in the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop located at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, consists of 8 scoops of ice cream which is then topped with every topping imaginable, including an entire can of whipped topping, and served in a giant sink shaped bowl. The sundae serves four to six people, but whether you choose to eat it alone or with friends and family, it is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

How is it I went to Disney and only had soggy sandwiches out of our cooler??! Now I’m totally craving and wishing I tried at least one of these goodies. Next time, I’m budgeting for one for all of us. ?

When our family went to Disney, the only ice cream that we tried was the pineapple whip…but it was amazing and refreshing! Now I want to try the beignet sundae…it looks fabulous!
