3 Spots to Relax (Really!) at Disney World

How many times have your friends said, “I can’t believe you go to WDW. It’s too hectic, it’s too busy! My family would rather sit on a beach for a week.” Well, they are missing out! There is some real relaxation you can enjoy at Walt Disney World FOR FREE. Try them out, and you will return from your WDW vacation refreshed and ready to face that “real world” outside the Disney Bubble. Here are some relaxing favorites for a couple traveling without kids:

1. Early morning peace–The Grand Floridian is a great place for breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. Just snag an early 8 am reservation. Before breakfast, the Grand Floridian grounds are beautiful. It’s a great time to sit on the pristine white beach and watch the sunrise. Follow the pathway, and you’ll find your way over to Disney’s Wedding Pavilion. The small docks behind the pavilion have a great view of the Polynesian beaches and the peaceful Seven Seas Lagoon. You can even see Cinderella’s Castle in the distance. We love to enjoy the peace before a great character breakfast buffet.

2. Relaxing Boat Ride–Staying at a Disney resort gives you unlimited access to many modes of transportation. We recently took our resort bus to Hollywood Studios at 7:35 am. Taking a walk to the right of the Hollywood Studios entrance will lead you down to the boat dock. This is always a must do for us, so we can see all the turtles, fish, and numerous ducks. At 8:00 am, the Hollywood Studios/Boardwalk boat will arrive at the dock on its morning run. It’s a great time to grab the outside seat in the back of the boat and enjoy the tranquil morning ride from Hollywood Studios, to the Boardwalk, then floating past the Beach and Yacht Club resorts, and finally ending at Epcot’s International Gateway. Not only have you had a tranquil boat ride, but there is barely a line at this Epcot entrance–you will walk right in when the park opens! Remember, the Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in France opens at 9:00 am, and you are just around the corner. You probably can smell the fresh-baked goods. Enjoy a cappuccino and a warm fresh baguette, croissant, or vanilla éclair while everyone else is racing into the front entrance.

3. Happiness is Afternoon Rocking – Stress-free time doesn’t just happen in the early morning; there are some great afternoon places to relax. After a late lunch at Be Our Guest, make your way up Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. Get your favorite dessert at the Main Street Confectionery or a coffee at the Starbucks Main Street Bakery. Then head to the comfortable rocking chairs located on the porch at the Town Square Theater. There is typically a breeze this time of day, and you can rock away and watch all the hustle and bustle of Main Street. Time this out right, and you now have a great front row seat for the amazing 3 pm Festival of Fantasy Parade. (Note: in the summer months the parade begins at 2 pm, so check for daily times.) While others are standing crowded along the street, you have a great relaxing spot. We looked so relaxed the last time we did this that a cast member came up to us, said, “Hey, you two look happy in your time-out spot!” and offered to take our picture.

There are so many more places to refresh and relax in the middle of the most visited place on earth. The Castle Kiss Goodnight, the Tree of Life Garden, the Boma porch before breakfast…the list goes on and on. So let those others sit on the beach and just read a book for a whole week. Wow, are they missing out on a great adventure! Where is your favorite happy place to relax at WDW?
