Epcot Flower & Garden Festival 2017

In Epcot, Foodies, Special Events by Charlyn0 Comments

The Epcot Flower & Garden Festival 207 is underway, and it’s fast becoming the very best time to visit Epcot. The weather is mild, the crowds are lighter than during the Food & Wine Festival, the gardens absolutely pop with color, and there are scrumptious treats to sample at every turn. Take a look at what’s new this year, along with some of the highlights.

Food: New in 2017

There are two new “Outdoor Kitchens” this year: Northern Bloom (French Canada) and the Berry Basket (in Showcase Plaza). Northern Bloom in particular is an instant hit for both main plates: the Seared Scallops (with green beans, buttery potatoes and bacon) and the Beef Tenderloin Tips (with mushroom Bordelaise and whipped potatoes).

Food: Returning Favorites

Some crowd pleasers are back this year, including the tasty and beautiful frozen drinks Violet Lemonade at Pineapple Promenade (non-alcoholic) in Showcase Plaza and La Vie en Rose (definitely alcoholic) in France. We sampled around the world again this year, and can’t wait to go back and enjoy the Beef Brisket with White Cheddar Fondue at The Smokehouse in America, the Onion Tarte in France, and the Seared Pork Tenderloin at Urban Farm Eats.

Topiaries

In between eating and while you’re sipping a frosty beverage, you’ll want to take in the sights. The topiaries, spread out all across Epcot, are eye-catching and just get better every year. This year, catch the new Beauty and the Beast topiary in France.

Gardens & Seminars

Specialty gardens are scattered throughout Epcot as well, like the Health & Healing Gardens in Future World West and the Bonsai collection in Japan. You can also walk inside a butterfly garden, or tour an English garden.

If you’re inspired to improve your gardening game once you get home, there are free seminars every weekend hosted by Disney horticulturalists. You can get tips and strategies from the same people who make these breathtaking gardens.

Playgrounds

Epcot often has pop-up playgrounds for festivals, and there’s a really unique one at Flower & Garden Festival. Besides having equipment for kids to spin, swing, and climb on, Magic Garden Melodies also offers oversized musical instruments for them to explore their creative sides. There’s shaded seating for the adults, too, and it’s illuminated at night. Smaller kids needing a place to run might also enjoy the Road to the Florida 500, a Disney’s Cars-inspired playground, or the Florida Fresh Garden, which is right next to an outdoor kitchen with seating.

Garden Rocks Concerts

Concerts are back, and free with your Epcot admission. You can catch the Gin Blossoms, Berlin, Night Ranger, the Plain White Ts, and other bands a few times a day. For guaranteed seating, book a meal package (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) at select Epcot restaurants on the same day you’d like to see the concert.
